The CTBT Fine Fescue Trial is located at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s
O.J. Noer Turfgrass
Research Facility in Verona, WI,
just southwest of Madison.
The trial is placed on parts of four adjacent 50’ by 50’ research plots, with
the unused border areas planted to perennial ryegrass. Mowing is performed
twice a week, using a riding rotary mower set at 2.5”. Irrigation is supplied
twice a week at 100% evapotranspiration replacement.
Fertility is managed with two pounds N/M/year on the following schedule: ½
pound N/M in May and July (sulfur coated urea with analysis of 34-0-11) and 1
pound N/M in November (urea, 46-0-0). Chemical applications for disease control
and broadleaf weed control have not been necessary.
